Sade Sati is the seven-and-a-half-year passage of Saturn across three signs around your natal Moon: the twelfth from it, the Moon's own sign, and the second. Saturn spends roughly two and a half years in each, and the cycle is counted from the moment it enters the first of the three.
It is the most widely asked-about transit in Vedic astrology, and the most misunderstood. The pressure comes from the Moon being the mind and the body's comfort: Saturn sits opposite the Moon in nature, so its company is felt as weight, responsibility and a demand for honesty rather than as misfortune.
The results depend almost entirely on how the Moon is placed in the birth chart. A strong, well-aspected Moon passes through Sade Sati with professional gain and personal discipline; an afflicted Moon can meet illness, delay and loss. Dates computed, not looked up
Each boundary is found by stepping through the actual computed position of Saturn and then bisecting to the minute. No printed ephemeris table is involved, so the dates stay correct for any period rather than only for the years someone remembered to publish.
Retrograde loops and double crossings
Saturn commonly crosses a sign boundary, falls back, and crosses again. In 2022 it left Capricorn in April, returned in July and left for good in January 2023. The cycle is therefore defined by the last ingress that still lands inside the three window signs, and a phase edge may differ between almanacs by a few months depending on which crossing they quote.
Dhaiyya and the eighth-house passage
Saturn fourth or tenth from the natal Moon is Chandra Dhaiyya — a two-and-a-half-year transit concentrated on home and property, or on career and standing, and lighter than Sade Sati. Saturn eighth from the Moon is watched for health and sudden events. All three are shown in the same reading so a difficult period is not misattributed to Sade Sati when it is really a Dhaiyya.
