Divisional Charts by Varga
One birth chart, twenty divisions. Each varga is a lens on a single area of life — marriage, career, wealth, learning, karma — with the same planets read afresh.
What is Divisional Charts?
Divisional charts, or Varga Chakras, are the finer subdivisions of the birth chart. Where the Rasi chart (D1) shows the whole of a life, each varga magnifies one area of it — marriage, career, wealth, children, learning, or karma — the way a lens isolates a single colour from white light.
The principle is simple to state and demanding to apply: a sign is divided into equal parts, and each planet's position is re-derived for that division. A sign split into ninths gives Navamsa (D9), into tenths gives Dashamsa (D10), into sixtieths gives Shastiamsa (D60). The planets do not move; the resolution changes.
Twenty divisions are used in practice, and each is judged on its own Lagna and its own lord. A planet may be comfortably placed in D1 yet fall in an unfavourable house in the relevant varga — which is precisely why a promise in the main chart sometimes fails to materialise.
How to Use This Tool
Follow these simple steps to get your personalized analysis.
Enter the date, exact time and place of birth to build all twenty charts at once.
Choose a varga from the list on the left, or select any row in the summary table.
Read the area of life the division governs, then look at which planets gain exaltation or own-sign strength there.
Compare the varga Lagna with the birth Lagna — a different ascendant means the area of life follows its own logic.
Switch between South and North chart styles to read the figure the way you are trained to.
How It Works
The science and methodology behind the calculations.
How a division is calculated
Each varga divides the 30° span of a sign into equal parts — nine parts of 3°20′ for Navamsa, ten parts of 3° for Dashamsa, sixty parts of 30′ for Shastiamsa. The part a planet occupies determines a new rasi, counted forward from Aries for odd divisions and from the following sign for even ones, with movable, fixed and dual signs each taking their own starting point. The result is a complete twelve-house chart for that division alone.
Why Navamsa carries the most weight
Navamsa is treated as the fruit of the tree: D1 shows what is planted, D9 shows what ripens. It also governs spouse and dharma, and is the standard test of a planet's real strength — an exalted planet debilitated in Navamsa delivers far less than its D1 position suggests, and the reverse is equally true.
Reading dignity within a varga
Exaltation, own-sign and debilitation are assessed for each planet inside the division using the same sign relationships as in the main chart. The summary table counts how many grahas hold that support in each varga, which gives an immediate sense of which areas of life have strength behind them and which will need effort, timing or remedy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool.
The classical texts describe sixteen principal divisions, of which D1, D2, D3, D7, D9, D10, D12, D16, D20, D24, D25, D27, D30, D45 and D60 are most commonly cast. This tool computes twenty, including the widely used D4, D5, D6, D8 and D11.
They should. A varga is a re-measurement of the same sky at finer resolution, so nearly every planet changes sign. The differences are the information — a planet that moves into its own sign in D10, for instance, points to career satisfaction even where D1 is mixed.
Dashamsa (D10) is the chart of profession, work and public standing. Read it alongside the 10th house and its lord in D1, and note Saturn, which governs work, and the Sun, which governs authority.
Yes, and the finer the division the more precisely it is needed. The Lagna changes roughly one sign every two hours, and by D60 a shift of a few minutes moves every planet. If the birth time is approximate, read D1 and D9 and treat the subtler divisions with caution.
D9 examines the strength and fruit of the planets in this life, particularly marriage and dharma. D60, Shastiamsa, is used for past-life karma and is considered decisive when other charts are inconclusive — which is why it demands the most exact birth time of all.
