Gochar

Transit Positions

Where the nine grahas stand today, measured against your own chart. Transits run on top of the birth promise — they decide when it matures.

What is Gochar?

Gochar is the reading of planetary transits against your own birth chart. The natal chart shows what a life contains; transits show when its different parts become active. A promise that stays dormant for two decades usually does so because no transit has touched it yet.

Two references are used. Houses counted from the natal Moon — Chandra Gochar — describe how a transit is actually experienced, because the Moon is the mind. Houses counted from the natal Lagna — Rasi Gochar — describe how it plays out in the world of work, body and circumstance. A practising astrologer reads both together.

Speed matters as much as direction. The Moon changes sign in about two days and sets the tone of a short window; Jupiter and Saturn take a year and two and a half years respectively, and their shifts are the ones that mark the phases of an adult life. Rahu and Ketu, moving in eighteen-month signs, describe the long axes of change.

How to Use This Tool

Follow these simple steps to get your personalized analysis.

1

Enter the date, exact time and place of birth to cast the natal chart.

2

The table shows where all nine grahas sit today, and which house each occupies from your Moon and from your Lagna.

3

Select a planet to read its signification alongside the house it is crossing — that combination is the actual prediction.

4

Watch the retrograde marker: a planet revisiting a boundary is finishing something rather than starting it.

5

Use the Saturn row as the entry point to the Sade Sati tool, which gives the full cycle with dates.

How It Works

The science and methodology behind the calculations.

Sidereal positions, one engine

Transit positions are computed by the same sidereal engine that casts the birth chart, using true ayanamsa and the same house and nakshatra divisions. Transit and natal charts therefore cannot drift apart, which is the commonest error in online gochar tools that pull positions from a separate source.

Counting the houses

A transit house is simply the countable distance from a reference sign to the sign the planet now occupies, beginning at one for the reference itself. Saturn in Pisces is the fourth sign from a Sagittarius Moon, so it is said to be transiting the fourth house — and the significations of Saturn and of the fourth house are then read together.

Why retrograde motion is treated as strength

A retrograde graha is not damaged; in the classical scheme its apparent backward motion is read as concentrated internal energy, which is why Cheshta Bala scores it highly. In transit it usually means a boundary is crossed, withdrawn from and crossed again, so results arrive late but land harder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool.

Gochar is the general word for transit. Rasi Gochar specifically counts houses from the natal Lagna, while Chandra Gochar counts from the natal Moon sign. The first describes external events and standing; the second describes how those events feel.

Roughly in proportion to the planet's speed. The Moon works within days, Mercury and Venus within a month, Jupiter over about a year and Saturn over two and a half. Slow planets also act with a delay — a Saturn transit often shows its effect after it has moved on.

No. A transit can only activate what the natal chart already contains. A favourable Saturn passage over a weak Saturn in the birth chart produces far less than the same passage over a strong one, which is why Shadbala is worth reading alongside gochar.

Because they are counted from two different signs. Unless your Moon sign and Lagna are the same, every transit will fall in a different house by each measure, and the two readings complement rather than contradict each other.
