Griha Pravesh Muhurta

Dates for entering a new home, chosen from the real Panchang for your city — nakshatra, tithi, yoga, karana and weekday weighed together, with the reasoning shown for every day.

Your birth details give the Moon sign, which lets the dates be weighed against you personally. The place of birth is used as the home location — change it below if the house is elsewhere.

What is Vastu Muhurta?

Griha Pravesh is the rite of first entering and lighting a new home, and the date is chosen by muhurta — the discipline of selecting a moment whose heavens support the undertaking. For a house, the criteria are stability, growth and the absence of overt affliction.

Five elements of the day are weighed. The nakshatra the Moon occupies, since a fixed star is preferred for anything meant to last. The tithi, with the Rikta tithis and Amavasya set aside. The yoga and karana, of which Vishti in particular is avoided. The weekday, with Tuesday and Saturday traditionally not chosen for entry. And the Moon's position relative to your own natal Moon, so the date is fitted to the household rather than to no one.

Time of day matters as much as the date. The ceremony should fall between sunrise and sunset, outside the day's Rahu Kaal. Abhijit Muhurta, the eighth fifteenth of the daylight hours, is broadly favourable and can soften a day that is otherwise only middling.

How to Use This Tool

Follow these simple steps to get your personalized analysis.

1

Enter your birth details — this gives the location for the sunrise calculations and your natal Moon.

2

Change the location field if the new home is in a different city, since Rahu Kaal and sunrise differ by place.

3

Set the date you are moving from and how far ahead to search.

4

Read the calendar strip for the shape of the window, then open a day for its full Panchang and reasoning.

5

Choose a date, then fix the actual time between sunrise and sunset while avoiding the Rahu Kaal shown.

How It Works

The science and methodology behind the calculations.

The Panchang is computed for your city

Every candidate day is evaluated with sunrise and sunset calculated for the coordinates you supplied, so tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are the ones actually in force at that place. Rahu Kaal is divided from the real daylight length, which is why the same date gives a different window in Chennai than in Delhi.

How the score is built

Each day begins neutral and is raised or lowered by the criteria above: a favourable nakshatra adds most, an avoided one subtracts most, and Rikta tithi, Vishti karana and an inauspicious yoga each take away from it. Where birth details are supplied, the transit Moon's angle to your natal Moon adds or subtracts a further margin. The result is a comparison between days, not a guarantee.

Where authorities disagree

Muhurta is not a single rulebook. Lists of favourable nakshatras vary between texts and between regional traditions, and some authorities admit Purnima while others prefer the day after. The criteria used here are the ones most commonly applied to house entry, and every day shows its full reasoning so you can substitute your own family's tradition where it differs.

There is no single best month, and the popular lists of allowed months vary by tradition. What can be measured is the quality of an individual day, which is why this tool ranks days from the computed Panchang rather than naming months.

If a date must be fixed by circumstances, take the best available day from the window and perform the entry inside Abhijit Muhurta, which is broadly supportive. A practical compromise is to move in on one date and perform the formal entry and first cooking on a better one.

Yes, when personalisation is switched on it also weighs where the transit Moon sits from your natal Moon, preferring angles that support you and setting aside the sixth, eighth and twelfth. Switch it off for a date that suits everyone in the family.

One eighth of the daylight hours, assigned by weekday, in which the tradition holds that undertakings go astray. It is not a whole-day prohibition — it is a window to keep the ceremony outside, which is why it is printed with each date.

This tool selects the time. The direction of the main door, the position of the kitchen and the puja room, and the treatment of the centre of the plot are Vastu questions, decided by the building rather than the calendar.
